Nuggets vs Timberwolves Game 6 prediction: Can Denver close the deal?

One week can change everything in the NBA. Six days ago, the Minnesota Timberwolves were huge favorites to advance to the Western Conference Finals as they held a 2-0 series lead over the Denver Nuggets. Now, the reigning champions have a 3-2 advantage as the focus shifts to Game 6.

The Nuggets are four quarters away from reaching the Western Conference Finals for the third time in five years. Tipoff in Game 6 is slated for 7:30 p.m. CT inside the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

It’s almost as if Denver flipped a switch between Game 2 and Game 3. The Nuggets have looked like a completely different team over the last several games, mostly due to the offensive efficiency. Nikola Jokic looks locked in and he’s getting help from across the floor.

Minnesota looked to have figured Denver out as they played exceptional defense in the first two games of the series. However, the Timberwolves have largely gotten away from that as they’ve given up 110+ in three straight outings. Anthony Edwards is one of the league’s best young superstars, but he can’t take down the defending champs on his own.

FanDuel Sportsbook lists the hosts as 2.5-point favorites with an over/under of 205.

Let’s take a closer look at the odds and trends:

Denver Nuggets at Minnesota Timberwolves

Time/TV: 7:30 p.m. CT (ESPN)

Spread (from FanDuel Sportsbook): Timberwolves -2.5

Total: 205

Moneyline: Timberwolves -130, Nuggets +110

Analysis: Dread it, run from it, Denver arrives all the same. Many were quick to count the Nuggets out when they found themselves in a 2-0 hole, sportsbooks included.

However, I was encouraging bettors to run to the window and take the +500 odds on the defending champions to advance. In addition to this being the history of Minnesota sports, I believe that Denver is still the best team in the NBA — yes, even better than Boston.

The Nuggets have had five players finish in double figures over the last three games. If you give a three-time MVP that type of help, it’s sure to be a recipe for success. Jokic has also played with a pep in his step recently as Denver looks eager to close out this series.

It’s clear the Nuggets have figured out how to score at ease against one of the league’s top defenses. The second they won Game 3, this series was over in my book. It was a fantastic run, Minnesota, but I believe it ends tonight at home.

Prediction: Nuggets 113, Timberwolves 104 (Over 205)
