The Dallas Mavericks (52-34, 26-17 away, 49-37 ATS) almost pulled off a historic 31-point comeback in their Game 4 setback to the LA Clippers (53-33, 26-17 home, 39-47 ATS) but Luka Doncic and company came up just short and now head back to Los Angeles for Game 5 with the best-of-seven series tied at two games apiece.

With LAC’s Kawhi Leonard out again with a knee injury, Dallas has been listed as a three-point road favorite in the Mavericks vs Clippers odds for Game 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:10 pm PT/10:10 pm ET at cypto.com Arena.

The public is hammering the Clippers in Wednesday’s NBA public betting splits. LAC is getting 63% of ATS handle as three-point home underdogs and 90% of moneyline handle as +124 ‘dogs to win straight-up.

The winner of the Mavericks/Clippers series will face the #1 OKC Thunder in the second round of the NBA playoff bracket. The Thunder swept the Pelicans in their first-round matchup.

Mavericks Comeback Falls Short

The high-variability Mavericks played arguably their worst first half of the entire season in Game 4 at home on Monday. Dallas trailed 55-24 with just over five minutes remaining in the second quarter before mounting a comeback for the ages. Over the next 24 minutes, the Mavs would crawl all the way back to tie the game at 98-98 late in the fourth, but the Clippers dug deep to emerge with a 116-111 road win sans Kawhi Leonard.

Paul George had team-highs in points (33, tied with James Harden), assists (8), and rebounds (6) for the Clippers, while Kyrie Irving dropped a game-high 40 points for the Mavericks. Luka Doncic notched his first triple-double of the postseason with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, but he was just 10-of-24 from the field and 1-of-9 from three.

Los Angeles held on for the win despite Dallas finishing with a massive +13 advantage on the glass (42-29) including a 14-5 edge on the offensive glass.

The Clippers can thank their absurd 18-of-29 (62.1%) performance from beyond the arc for the Game 4 upset victory. George was 7-of-10 from deep while James Harden was 4-of-5 while also scoring 33 points.

Clippers vs Mavericks Game 5 Injury Reports

Leonard (23.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 3.6 APG) is out again for Game 5 with a knee injury, but he’s currently the only player on the Clippers’ injury report.

On the Dallas side, Tim Hardaway Jr (14.4 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 1.8 APG) is out again with an ankle injury. Hardaway hasn’t played since logging six minutes in Game 2 on April 23.

Doncic (33.9 PPG, 9.2 RPG, 9.8 APG) is also on the Game 5 injury report, listed as probable due to a sprained knee. The MVP contender’s presence on the injury report is likely the driving force behind the public’s heavy back of the Clippers in the Game 5 betting splits.

LAC vs DAL NBA props from DraftKings on May 1.

Despite his knee injury, Doncic once again has a game-high point total of 33.5. He has yet to reach 34 points in the series, with his highest output (33 points) coming in Game 1 on April 21. Coming off his electric 40-point performance, Irving has the second-highest total at 25.5, while George leads the Clippers players at 24.5.

Dallas Mavericks vs LA Clippers Predictions

The Mavericks have become a furiatingly inconsistent team over the past few weeks, looking like NBA championship contenders one quarter and a lottery team the next. I think Doncic’s knee injury is hampering the MVP contender more than he’s letting on, and I expect Kyrie to play a bigger role in the offense in Game 5 as a result.

I have no confidence in which Mavs team will show up in Game 5, but I do like a correlated same-game parlay of Luka staying under his point total of 33.5, which he’s done every game in this series, paired with Irving going over 25.5, which he’s done twice against LAC.

DAL vs LAC Game 5 pick: Doncic under 33.5 points + Irving over 25.5 points same-game parlay (+194)
