Beautiful city crowned the UK’s best place to live and it’s not London

A gorgeous city in Scotland has been named as the best place to live in the UK in a new ranking from the team at ECA International.

The team ranked cities based on the quality of living they could offer an expat. They looked at housing, health services, social networks, leisure facilities, climate, personal safety and air quality.

While no British cities ranked among the top 10, a Scottish city did make the top 20 best places to live in the world.

Edinburgh was named the best city in the UK to live and the 17th best city in the world for expats.

The Scottish capital has a relatively low crime rate as well as lower levels of air pollution than many other major cities.

London barely scraped a place in the top 40, landing in 37th place on the overall expat ranking. The Big Smoke scored poorly on housing.

Scotland dominated the rankings in the UK with Aberdeen the second-best scoring city in 24th place.

Neil Ashman, senior locations ratings analyst at ECA said: “Edinburgh and Aberdeen score well across all liveability factors which sees them places high in the rankings.”

Glasgow didn’t place as well, landing in 47th place on the overall ranking. Scotland’s biggest city slipped down the rankings because of its crime rate.

Dublin did well in the ranking, finishing in 11th place. However, the Irish capital has fallen out of the top 10 since last year.

This was mainly due to the lack of suitable housing which has threatened to price out many of the city’s young people.
