Leicester & Sale suffer five-point PWR deductions

Leicester Tigers beat Sale 22-19 in January, which is their only league win

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has imposed five-point deductions on Premiership Women’s Rugby teams Leicester Tigers and Sale Sharks.

Regulations state a minimum average of 13 England-qualified players are required in matchday squads for the opening nine rounds of the season.

Leicester and Sale failed on this point and the points will be taken off automatically, with no appeal possible.

Both affected teams have only one victory in the league.

The Tigers will move to four points in the PWR table, with Sale on three points. Trailfinders Women, who are third bottom, are on 13 points.

In October 2023, Worcester Warriors Women pulled out of the league and cup competitions with immediate effect after their sponsorship deal with Cube International was unexpectedly ended.
