Current WBC interim super middleweight champion David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) makes his light heavyweight debut opposite Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) this Saturday, June 15. Live coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime Video PPV, as the 12-round bout gets going from the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Benavidez needs no introduction, “El Monstruo” is coming off a dominant 6th-round retirement win over Demetrius Andrade last November. The orthodox fighter is known for his lethal power and combinations. With a dream matchup opposite Canelo Álvarez unlikely, Benavidez now steps up to 175 pounds and looks to capture another belt.
Gvozdyk is the former WBC light heavyweight titleholder, winning the belt back in 2018. After two successful title defenses, he suffered a 10th-round TKO loss to Artur Beterbiev in 2019 and subsequently retired. However, in 2023, Gvozdyk returned to the ring and has won three tune-up bouts since. The 37-year-old now eyes another stint as champion.
This interim WBC light heavyweight title fight will serve as the co-main event of the Gervonta Davis-Frank Martin WBA lightweight title bout.
