The huge Week 5 showdown between Georgia and Alabama went the Crimson Tide’s way in a wild fourth quarter and finish. Alabama built a 21-0 first quarter lead, but lost it inside the final three minutes. A 75-yard touchdown strike from new Heisman Trophy favorite Jalen Milroe to Ryan Williams seconds later put ‘Bama back on top and they held on for a 41-34 win. That victory also moved Alabama to No. 1 in this week’s AP Top 25 poll followed by Texas, Ohio State, Tennessee and Georgia as fans follow the watch and wager action more closely with the games ahead deciding the 12-team college football playoff.
But beyonnd the SEC and Big Ten dominance occupying 12 of the top 13 spots in this week’s Top 25 poll, UNLV entered the AP Top 25 for the first time in program history. That’s quite a turnaround in two years for a Las Vegas program that had been among the worst in college football for decades, and is staying in the Mountain West as five other schools including No. 21 Boise State leave the MWC to the new Pac 12 by 2026.
The Week 6 college football schedule to kickoff October includes just one Top 25 matchup.
